As Friday’s nights go, the 7th October was spectacular for everyone at K&M Global.

Being nominated for an award was very flattering, reaching the finals was amazing but all dwarfed by reason we were there. We were in the top 3 companies in the £1-5 Million category and the Employer of the Year.

In line with our core values, that no-one is more important than anyone else, when we received the news that our company was invited to attend a black-tie dinner with Queen Elizabeth at London’s famous venue, Slater’s Menswear share price rocketed! We all attended with our key friends and family who had supported K&M on its journey.

The run-up to the evening was great fun, especially as most of the attendees were males who often raised an eyebrow at the girls discussing what they were wearing at the weekend. Never has the canteen had so many discussions about male grooming and how to tie a dicky bow, especially as the first arranged date was cancelled due to the queen’s passing, hence, all conversations and grooming appointments had to be duplicated to ensure everyone looked ‘dapper’ on the rearranged 7th – and they did!

We were winners before we got out of the taxis, everyone looked fantastic, and we were proud to be part of such an event.

The evening was hosted by Frank Rothwell, the new owner of Oldham Athletic and a long-time family friend. Frank offered some very insightful advice for small businesses and chatted with some of the fans at K&M.

We were pipped to the post in both categories. Still, all the staff got to receive their finalists’ plaques on stage and got some great photographs taken, making great memories and leaving with a determination to be the winners next year.

As Oldham is equidistant between the ports of Hull and Liverpool, it was a perfect place for an exporter to be located, graced with good fun, hearty, hard-working northern lads. It was the perfect place for K&M to offer a top-quality service to its customers, which spans all hemispheres, putting Dobcross firmly on the international map.

Finally, thanks to the Oldham Business Awards and their sponsors for arranging such an inspiring event…hasta la vista
